Hostels and cheap hotels in Salzburg
Cheap hostels in Salzburg
Ideal for backpackers or for low budgets.
In the cheap accommodations in hostels, hotels or pensions, most give you these options: staying in shared rooms (bunk beds) with other people, or in a private room. The latter could include a bathroom inside the room or a shared bathroom outside the room.
Let’s see the best hostels in Salzburg where you can sleep for less in both types of rooms.
Cheap accommodation in shared room: 3 ideal hostels if you’re solo traveling
1. Well-located hostel with views
If you’re looking for a shared room in a well-located hostel in center Salzburg, with amazing views and for the best price, then look no further! The unpronounceable Naturfreundehaus is the perfect option for you.
For about 20 to 25 euros per person, you get a bunk bed in a shared room in the best area to stay in Salzburg.
The hostel is up on a hill, so prepare to go up and down the stairs (there’s an elevator, but it costs 2-3 euros), but the view is worth it. The hostel also has a cheap double room for about 50 euros, but it’s pretty hard to get, unless you book in advance.

2. Yoho Hotel
Yoho is another pretty famous hostel, near the train station and at about a 20-minute walk from the center. It’s a bit more expensive than the other one, but you can still get a bed in a shared room for about 26 euros.
What I liked the most about this hostel is that, apart from being full of travelers, every night they play The Sound of Music, a film set in Salzburg, ideal for fans or for those who are so young that have never seen it.
It also has private rooms for two people which cost about 35 euros per person, but, again, you have to book in advance (for instance, right now, there isn’t an open spot for another 2 months).

3. The cheapest hostel in Salzburg
If the price is what’s most important to you, then the beds at Wolfgang hostel for less than 20 euros are unbeatable. It is pretty close to the train station and the reviews are great.

Budget Private Rooms in Salzburg: Ideal for traveling with a partner or with friends
➤ If you’re looking for cheap accommodation in Salzburg but don’t want to share the room, Elisabeth Pension has different alternatives, with shared or private bathrooms, and prices start at around 25 euros per person for a double room. It is near the Salzburg train station and about 20 minutes walking from the center.
➤ If you’re looking for an accommodation with a cooler design, there’s the eco chic alternative, the Keep Eco Residence, which is halfway between the station and the center.
➤ Do you prefer an accommodation right in the middle of the city center? Then you’ll have to consider spending at least 40 euros per person with a shared bathroom at Gasthaus, where the historic area to the south begins.
➤ If having a private bathroom is non negotiable for you, then a place I consider has the best quality/price/location among the cheap hotels in Salzburg is Mozart guesthouse. You rent a simple room within an apartment. The location is privileged: at just 200 meters from the Cathedral, one of the must-see places in Salzburg and the price is really good.
💰 On the other hand, if you prefer to save, I recommend, apart from these cheap hotels in Salzburg, buying the Salzburg Card, which has many discounts, unlimited transportation and free tickets, which will make you save a ton.

Cheap Hotels in Salzburg: The best 3 options
➤ The first budget hotel in Salzburg I’m going to recommend is the German chain of hotels called Motel One; they are low-budget hotels with all the amenities.
It is beside the river near the train station, 15 minutes from the center. The location is a plus, as facing the river, many rooms have incredible views.
Double rooms cost about 40 euros per person (be careful because there is another Motel One but this one is far from the center).
Although it is a big hotel, you should book in advance, since many people want to stay there, as with every cheap alternative in the city.
➥ Book it here! 🏩

➤ The other two cheap hotels in Salzburg I’m going to recommend are even closer to the center: One is Gastehouse im Priesterseminar, which has the peculiarity that it is the building of a seminary, and the other one is this hotel, near Mirabell Palace.
You can get double rooms from 45 euros per person, they have positive reviews and these are the cheapest hotels of this category that you’re going to find in Salzburg.
Budget Apartments in Salzburg
If you’d rather rent a cheap apartment in the city, near the train station there’s this apartment; it is great and has affordable prices. You must book for a minimum of two nights.
Another thing you can do is look for a studio apartment in the area of Mirabell, where, in general, three people can stay (look at this or this)
