The 9 best beaches in Salou we loved the most!

If you’re planning a trip to the capital of the Costa Dorada — with over 5.5 miles of coastline — you’ll definitely want to check out its best beaches. That’s why in this post, we’re sharing the top coves and beaches in Salou you won’t want to miss.

At the end of the article, you’ll find a map to help you locate them all.

How to explore the beaches in Salou

The best way to visit the different beaches and coves in Salou is by following the Camino de Ronda — also known as the coastal path or the viewpoints route.

This 6-mile trail runs along the entire coastline, starting at the western end of Ponent Beach, where you’ll find the Venus Square, and ending at El Racó, just before La Pineda Beach begins.

Some parts of the path are quite urban, with a seaside promenade, while others —especially around Cap Salou — are more rugged, with wooden walkways or even natural rocky trails.

Beyond walking the coastline, one of the best things about this route is the number of scenic viewpoints offering incredible views of the sea and of Salou itself. We followed the entire path all the way to the Salou Lighthouse.

Where to stay to make the most of the beaches

If you’re looking to stay near wide, sandy beaches with full services and a lively atmosphere, your best bet is the Ponent or Llevant areas.

On the other hand, if you prefer smaller coves and a more natural setting, you should consider staying in the Cap Salou area.

We’ve stayed at both the Hotel Negresco and Best Cap Salou (a great option if you’re traveling with kids thanks to its water park — check out our full review here).

That said, for each beach and cove we mention, we’ll also suggest a nearby hotel — just in case you fall in love with a spot and decide you want to stay there!

We go into more detail in our post on where to stay in Salou, which we highly recommend checking out to help you choose the best area for your stay.

1. Playa de Poniente (Ponent beach)

Ponent Beach, with its shallow waters and fine, golden sand, is one of the two beaches closest to the center of Salou.

It stretches over about 0,75 miles in length, and you can continue walking west along the beach, where it becomes Cap de Sant Pere Beach, located in Cambrils. To the east, the beach ends at the marina.

The entire beach is lined with the Miramar promenade. Due to its location, it’s quite popular, especially with families and couples, although not as crowded as Levante Beach, which we’ll cover next.

Recommended accommodation for this beach: 4R Casablanca

2. Playa de Levante (Levante beach)

This is the most famous beach in Salou, and therefore, the most crowded. It offers all the necessary services to make sure you have everything you need.

Like Ponent Beach, Levante Beach is also quite long, stretching for about 0.8 miles.

It features fine, golden sand and a beautiful promenade called Passeig Jaume I that runs the entire length of the beach. Additionally, at its eastern end, you can start the Camino de Ronda, one of Salou’s must-do activities and a perfect way to explore the best beaches on foot.

Accommodation in Levante Beach: Hotel Blaumar (Highly recommended!)

3. Playa Capellans Beach

A small sandy beach about 650 feet long. There are a couple of beach bars where you can enjoy a cold beer or a sangria, with front-row views of the sea.

If the sea is rough and you’re coming to Capellans from Levante Beach via the coastal path, you’ll need to speed up in some parts to avoid getting splashed by the waves. If you continue eastward from this beach towards Llenguadets, you’ll have to climb a few steps.

4. Cala Llenguadets cove

A small sandy cove about 200 feet long, which tends to get quite crowded during the high season. From here, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets.

5. Playa Llarga (Long beach)

One of the beaches in Salou that we liked the most. Over 1970 feet long, it’s very peaceful off-season, and the coastal path in this area is wide, with spots to sit and some viewpoints offering beautiful views of the coast.

Recommended Accommodation: Hotel Best Negresco (Highly recommended!)

6. Cala Penya Tallada cove

With less than 50 meters in length, it is considered one of the most beautiful coves in Salou, and there are plenty of reasons for this: it’s a stony cove with a more natural setting, native vegetation, and spectacular rock formations on the sides. You can see some buildings from the nearby residential areas, but they don’t compare to the multi-story buildings seen in the other coves and beaches in Salou.

It doesn’t have any services, and can only be accessed on foot, descending from Penya Tallada street. In fact, the coastal path from the West is interrupted here, so you’ll need to take a detour.

7. Cala Font cove

A beautiful, small sandy cove with easy access by car, as there is parking nearby. It’s perfect for snorkeling.

8. Cala Vinya cove

A small sandy cove, right next to Cala Font. The hotel we stayed at in Salou had direct access to this beach, which allowed us to enjoy it a lot.

Recommended Accommodation: Best Cap Salou (with a water park, read our review of Best Cap Salou)

9. Cala Crancs cove

The last cove in Salou on this route, located at the tip of Cap Salou, very close to the lighthouse, and surrounded by a natural setting. There’s a small beach bar where they rent sunbeds during the season.

It’s a great cove for snorkeling.
