Where is Albir in Spain?
Albir beach is situated in the municipality of Alfaz del Pi, in close proximity to the Altea
beaches, making it accessible even on foot.
Positioned 52 km northeast of Alicante, a mere 3.5 km south of Altea, 17 km from Calpe, and just 7 km from the vibrant Benidorm.
To the south, it shares borders with the Sierra Helada Natural Park (Serra Gelada, in
Valencian), with Albir beach being part of this picturesque park. To the north, it neighbors Cap Blanc Sur beach, which belongs to the municipality of Altea.
How to get to Albir
For those traveling by air, Alicante Airport (ALC) is the most convenient.
Optimal exploration of Costa Blanca can be achieved by renting a car. On this website you will find a price comparison between different rental agencies, so that you can choose the one that suits you best (there are usually very good prices).
But if that’s not your preference, private transfers from Alicante airport to Albir accommodation are available at around 78 euros for up to 3 people. Alternatively, public transport options are outlined below.
From Alicante to Albir
By car, follow the N332 or the AP-7 Mediterranean Highway, and then take the exit to the N332.
For public transport enthusiasts, take the Alicante tram to L’Albir station. Switch to line 9 at Benidorm after taking line 1. The entire journey from Alicante to Albir takes a minimum of 1 hour and forty minutes.
From Benidorm to Albir
By car, the journey takes a quick 15 minutes on the N332.
For a comfortable and economical public transport option, the tram will transport you to Albir in just 10 minutes.
Albir beach on the Costa Blanca
Albir beach stretches for 550 meters, seemingly longer due to its seamless connection with Cap Blanc Sur beach, and spans about 70 meters in width.
Regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, Albir boasts transparent waters and gentle waves.
The green landscape of the Serra Gelada on one side enhances the charm, distinguishing it from other destinations on the Costa Blanca.
Its Blue Flag status for 36 years attests to its excellence.
However, it’s essential to note that it differs from typical sandy beaches found in Calpe or Benidorm. Instead, it features pebbles and stones of various sizes, with minimal sandy spaces.
Walking barefoot can be uncomfortable, necessitating water shoes.
Additionally, when seated, the stones may cause slight white staining on clothing, prompting the recommendation to use a blanket or beach chair.
The beachfront promenade, adorned with palm trees and benches, offers a picturesque stroll.
Albir beach provides essential amenities, including public bathrooms, showers for sand and salt removal, and seasonal umbrella rentals for a relaxing beach day. Wheelchair accessibility is ensured with wooden walkways and ramps leading to the beach.
Noteworthy features include a fenced play area for children directly on the beach and a seasonal workshop area with a small library. While the books were in Norwegian during our visit, variety is promised in the summer.
Where to stay in Albir, Spain?
Our recommended accommodation in Albir is the Kaktus hotel. Why? It boasts an excellent beachfront location, facing the promenade, with a top-floor swimming pool and another on the beach. Additionally, you can book with breakfast or include all meals.
Another beachfront option is the Riviera hotel, positioned right at the end of Albir beach. Alternatively, the Colina, about 500 meters from the beach, offers more budget-friendly accommodations, including studios and apartments.

What to do in Albir and Alfaz del Pi
The Roman ruins of Albir
Surprisingly, Albir hosts ruins of a 1,500-year-old Roman Villa, situated a few meters from the promenade and easily accessible from Albir beach.
Walk along the Albir promenade
The picturesque promenade, featuring palm trees, benches, and a spacious walking area, includes the Paseo de las Estrellas. This section honors artists from the L’Alfaz Film Festival in a Hollywood-style Walk of Fame.
A bike path runs along the promenade, leading to Altea, with an anchor sculpture at its end.

Route to the Albir Lighthouse
Embark on a 2.5 km trail from the southern end of the beach to reach the L’Albir lighthouse, located in the heart of the Sierra Helada Natural Park.
The trail offers beautiful views of the Costa Blanca and is suitable for the entire family, requiring approximately two hours for a round trip.
Market day
If you visit Albir beach on a Sunday morning, explore the clothing, fruit, vegetable, and flower market located just 400 meters from the beach.
Additionally, on Friday mornings, a market takes place in Alfaz del Pi.

Visiting the town of Alfaz del Pi
Before visiting El Albir and Alfaz del Pi, the diversity of more than 50 nationalities, primarily Norwegians, caught our attention.
Notwithstanding its current diversity, Alfaz del Pi maintains its traditional style in various central places.
Some recommended places to visit in Alfaz del Pi include San José Church, the Plaza Mayor, Jaume Square, and charming streets like Andalucía, Baldons, or El Gall.
If you’re traveling by public transport, utilize the Alfaz del Pi tram stop.
Other things to do in Albir and surroundings
Albir offers a tranquil atmosphere, with limited family-friendly activities. Consider attending a dinner set in the Middle Ages with a Robin Hood show, especially if you’re traveling with children (➥Book it here!).
Numerous nearby places are worth exploring, such as the old town of Altea, the vibrant Benidorm, the beautiful Guadalest, or the colorful houses of Villajoyosa.
For those with several days and an inclination towards larger cities, a tour to Alicante
